New Bible Journal Uses Life-Application Approach

Saint Louis, MO—CPH introduces The Lutheran Study Bible Journal, a companion resource to The Lutheran Study Bible. Men’s and women’s editions of the journal have a spiral binding and are available at cph.org or by calling 1-800-325-3040.

Laura Lane, Production Editor at CPH, says, “This is more than a journal. This is not simply lines on a page. The application notes and prayers provide daily reflection on your salvation through faith alone.”

Based on a proven reading plan, the journal provides the tools needed to read through The Lutheran Study Bible in two years. Each day offers a Scripture reading, journaling space, life-application notes, and prayer. Lane shares, “The journal is meant to engage you in active, prayerful Bible reading.”

Journaling is a widely-used approach for daily devotion. A podcast that focuses on its benefits, featuring Janice Wendorf, President of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, can be downloaded at CPH’s The House Channel.

“Each time I read an application note, I saw in a new way how all of Scripture applies to my life today,” Lane continues. “I was amazed at how so many of these brief statements touched on aspects of my life at that very point in time—how I was feeling, challenges I was having, and opportunities I had to praise God.”

The personal index in the journal allows readers to keep track of their thoughts. “With most journals, you write down your good thoughts and then can’t find them later,” says Rev. Dr. Benjamin T. G. Mayes, managing editor at CPH. “The Lutheran Study Bible Journal includes a subject index that you compile as you go. If you write about Baptism on page 42 of the journal, you can write the number 42 beside Baptism in the index. You’ll always find what you wrote on any topic.”

The Lutheran Study Bible Journal can be followed at twitter.com/TLSBJournal for daily Scripture readings and inspirational thoughts.

The Lutheran Study Bible is the first Bible in English to be developed from the ground up with notes that are distinctly Lutheran, prepared by Lutheran contributors from over twenty Lutheran church bodies.
